Not long after arriving at St. Paul's Towers in 2001, Midge Sanborn volunteered to start a convenience store for residents to purchase greeting cards, laundry soap, paper goods, drug sundries, and snacks. With generous help from other residents, 4 and 1/2 years later, the store produced enough income to purchase a piano for the lounge, repay Midge the personal funds she used to start the store, and have money left in the bank.
Having served during WWII as a Lieutenant JG in the Navy Supply Corps, this type of project came naturally to Midge. She is used to getting things done. When it was announced the ESC Foundation was looking for committee volunteers to plan and build a residents' center, she was one of the first to raise her hand to help and contribute. Midge has served on several other committees, including serving as President of the SPT Association Council.
Both she and her husband, Bud, gave generously to the building of what is now known as the Fred Weaver Residents' Center through several Charitable Gift Annuities. Before setting them up she consulted with her son who serves as her financial advisor.
Midge currently sits on the Episcopal Senior Communities Foundation Board and offers an invaluable resident perspective. She contributes annually to the Foundation's Assistance Fund and makes frequent memorial donations. The organization is grateful for her financial contributions and energetic support.
