A Gift of Appreciated Stock

Libby and Lovell Langstroth put their name on a reservation list to live at Canterbury Woods in the late 80's. In 1999, they moved in and say they are grateful everyday for their decision.

In 2005, they made a very generous cash contribution to Canterbury Woods using appreciated stock. The majority of their gift was used to purchase a campus wide wireless system that alerts staff when a resident needs immediate help.

Lovell - "We just love it here at Canterbury Woods. It's a wonderful place to live and we are so happy it's our home. We just feel good about the place and wanted to give back in any way we could."

Libby - "We moved to the Monterey Bay area in the early 80's because Lovell and I had developed a great love for the ocean. He had retired from his medical practice and I had been working as an anthropologist when we discovered the fascinating world of marine biology. Canterbury Woods offered the best place on the Peninsula to live. We have wonderful accommodations, fantastic food, the nicest and most interesting people, and the perfect staging area for underwater exploration."

Lovell - "Since retiring and moving to the Peninsula and becoming Canterbury Woods residents, Libby and I took up underwater photography and have essentially made a second career out of exploring and photographing the multitude of ocean animals."

Libby - "When we started diving and taking pictures, we had no idea how addicting this could be. We don't dive anymore, but before we stopped, we each logged more than 650 dives on the Monterey Peninsula. In the course of learning all we could about ocean creatures, we wound up putting together a book of photographs and descriptive essays on marine animals called A Living Bay. It is currently used as a Marine Biology text book. Little did we know that moving to Canterbury Woods and being able to pursue our newfound interest would lead to such a thing".
